Due to the march of time, our customer found that the material support for an existing Tire and Wheel System that was built around the Allen-Bradley PLC-5 platform was becoming an issue. In order to maintain their manufacturing commitments, it became necessary to upgrade their multi-panel control system to the Allen-Bradley ControlLogix platform.
This project required an understanding of the data-type differences between the Allen-Bradley PLC-5 and ControlLogix platforms. An additional challenge was caused by the different communication networks used by this system.
This project included:
- Allen-Bradley ControlLogix 1756-L73 processor
- Rockwell Software’s Studio 5000
- Allen-Bradley PanelView Plus HMI
- Rockwell Software’s FactoryTalk View ME (FTView ME)
- Allen-Bradley 1771 to 1756 Conversion components.
- Allen-Bradley RIO and DataHighway communications using the 1756-RIO and 1756-DHRIO modules.
- Allen-Bradley 1756-MVI communication module
As a Rockwell Automation System Integrator (RASI) with Allen-Bradley PLC-5, ControlLogix, and PanelView experience we were able to develop a phased approach that reduced the overall downtime caused by this implementation. The result of this phased implementation was that the department was able to meet their manufacturing targets.
