Our long-standing customer had an issue where production vehicles that were not ready for release to shipping, due to quality concerns, were being shipped. In order to correct this issue and improve quality, our customer requested our assistance in developing a control system that would serve as a Gate-Keeper to prevent the release of vehicles with quality issues.
Using our experience as a Rockwell Automation System Integrator (RASI) we were able to develop a control system based on the Allen-Bradley 1756 ControlLogix processor that interfaced with the plant’s quality system and the vehicles ODB2 interface. Through the use of scanners, induction coils, signaling devices/marquees, and arm gates we were able to implement a system using Ethernet communications that verified the vehicle quality status and determine whether it should be allowed to ship.
This implementation corrected a hole in the customers quality system, and in the Fall of 2019, we implemented our solution in the customers third plant in North America.
This system included the following:
- Allen-Bradley 1756-L73 Processor
- Allen Bradley 2711P-T15 Panelview Plus HMI
- Induction Loops
- Barcode Scanners
- Quality Verification System
- Vehicle ODB2 Code Check
- Marquee and other signaling devices
- Ethernet communications
- Arm (Barrier) Gates
